Service:
Wonderful – friendly and unobtrusive.
Cuisine:
Not a huge menu , but what was on the menu was extremely impressive
Presentation:
We had been in Christchurch for a week and after our first visit to this establishment I never went any where else. After a week I think I must have tried everything on the menu.
I will comment on the meal that impressed me most . A slow roasted 1.25 KG lamb shoulder , Fondant potato , green pea whip, it was EXCELLENT I could not finish it . My dinning partner had a baked lemon chicken with leek and sage with grilled red peppers. I also tried this and it to was BRILLENT. As for the entree they make their own Pate' on the premises and it to was superb
Wine List:
Small but appropriate – I drank and sampled so many great f N. Z wines it's hard to pick one out. OK so I over did it a bit. Lets just say all taste are catered for.
Value for
Money:
Good. Bit pricey but you always get what you pay for
Ambience:
It's a real castle straight out of the middle ages ( however in this case it was 1920 ) Maree Hills made us feel very welcome . Seating was VERY comfortable ( this is something I consider very important in restaurants ) .
Open fire and HUGH hearth. You have to see this place to believe it . It was BRILLANT I loved it .
The feel
good factor:
We’ll be going back, and I
do mean very soon. We had a brilliant evening at which truly
is Christchurch’s last great culinary secret. One of my very rare 5 glass awards.
