Service:
Exceptional, unobtrusive and totally professional service from friendly,
helpful staff. A real highlight.
Presentation:
Beautifully presented food, and staff very smart and understated.
Surprisingly and refreshingly substantial servings for approx $35
per main course.
Wine List:
Very full selection of mainly NZ wines, but very few by the glass
for those of us who were driving. Rather surprised that all 3 ports
offered were Dow, and that 3 of the 4 dessert wines offered were
Marlborough late harvest rieslings when we're in the middle of an
area producing some stellar late harvest pinot gris and chardonnays,
quite apart from Nelson's ice wines etc. Lovely to find the fourth
sticky was a d'Yquem - what a pity whoever typed up the menu couldn't
spell it.
Reasonable
Value for
Money:
Good.
Ambience:
Restaurant itself delightful
- quite an intimate wooden-floored area looking out onto the lake
and golf course. White table cloths, and decor quite minimalist
- which is perfect. The venue and the food are the stars
The feel
good factor:
Pleasant, relaxed place despite
the formality you would expect in a fine-dining space. They have
weddings here, and there was one on the evening we visited - unfortunately
this may have been the reason why my wonderful medium chargilled
lamb backstraps and my husband's medium-rare ribeye on the bone
arrived well done.
