UPDATED
Service:
Slightly better than last time, all orders are taken at the counter, but they do have a waitress serving and a maître'd who will serve
you at the table if they are not too busy. This is a pub/restaurant
and I guess they have to keep costs down, not perfect but by and
large it works.
Presentation:
Last time it was not bad at all, this time it was EXCELLENT. The entrée was a seafood Chowder and better than George's at Sanctuary
Cove (what more can I say) I
ordered the Chicken Crustini, oven baked in a cheese sauce with
garlic and king prawns. This was not just good it was FANTASTIC. Chef Peter Groucott ( a N.Z.'er ) produced a spectacular dish you
must try.
Next evening
I attended a local group gathering for a 6 course meal . The quality,
the imagination and flair shown by Chief Peter was on par to any
TOP restaurant in Sydney Melbourne .
Wine List:
Excellent choice, some very well know names. Unfortunately not all
were in stock.
Value for
Money:
When you step back and look at the quality of food produced by the
Chef who also acts as saucier (his sauce's were brilliant) and
a price of $22.00 for a main course compared with $40 to $60.00
in a TOP restaurant I don't think there is much argument. You just
can't beat it.
Ambiance:
Very bright and spacious with a lot of outside light. This restaurant
has the potential to be top notch restaurant. At present it tends
to be understated . All the ingredients are there to make this a
"must go to" on a weekend drive. Ocean, rustic hotel,
excellent food and a owner, Mr. Keith Webber who walks around the
bar and restaurant meeting his patrons. This makes patrons feel
important and increases the kudos of the restaurant.
The feel
good factor:
I am quite happy to say it was a nice trip to Jacob's Well and the
tavern itself I would call rustic. But when you add the dining
experience along with the general ambiance, I would say it is well
worth a trip to Jacob's Well with the kids and enjoy a great dining
experience. The more people who know about this place will certainly
soon spread the word about this understated restaurant.
   +
Highly Recommended.
