Service:
Brilliant, and very personal, by the owners
Presentation:
Attractive and understated.
Wine List:
Interesting, recently revised and carefully considered. Premium
selection impressive. You can also BYO.
Value for
Money:
Excellent.
Ambience:
Pleasant
and relaxed.
The feel
good factor:
Definitely a large cut above
your average suburban bistro, and well worth a visit.
It is unusual to find such care
taken with lists of menu items for people with various food intolerances,
and that will prove helpful for many patrons. There is a full selection
of entrees, and a number of light meal choices.
Owner Ian Grover and his wife Pip
Stewart run a very professional, friendly establishment with a talented
young chef, Tiffany Decker. They take considerable care with wine
choices and menu selection, with a view to a complex interplay of
flavours where nothing overly dominates the palate. The philosophy
is most successful.
Pip and Ian are knowledgeable about
their food and wine matching, and my partner appreciated Ians
recommendation of the gutsy, inky cassis-and-beetroot, mushroomy
Goldwater Gimblett Gravels Merlot 2004 with the wonderful duck confit.
The duck was tender and flavourful and Cousinns is a real find,
and I highly recommend a visit for a cruisy evening with great food
and wine which wont break the bank, and genuinely personal
service from people who love what theyre doing and
it shows.
