Service:
A night at Vanitas
promises a luxurious fine dining experience and you would expect
prompt, personal and professional service.....whilst the service
was professional, it was'nt entirely prompt. Considering the fact
that it was on a Tuesday night and not busy, intervals between courses
where lenghty and drawn out. However, the vibe around our table
were positive and the food interesting and unpredictable. They get
bonus points for that!
Presentation:
Vanitas brings you
the ultimate in dining, offering innovative cuisine specialising
in only the best. For us, being 10 at the table, the choices started
with the entrees, Seared Queensland Scallops on a salad of cucumber,
snow peas, feta and cabbage with citrus vinaigrette and crisp pork
crackling($29.00) to Lobster ragout with smoked duck breast, baby
carrots, asparagus and rockmelon in a crustacean broth ($32.00).
The list goes on and on!! Even more impressive is the mains which
offers one of the best I have ever tried!! Smoked black Angus beef
fillet with spiced potatoes, pea and truffle ravioli and tomato
chutney. ($42.00) Another winner is the Roasted loin of venison
with carrot puree, onion marmalade, chestnuts and juniper jus ($39.00)
Simply the best!
Wine List:
The wine-list is the
most impressive, extensive and expensive I have seen so far and prices
start at around $60 to $4900. We settled for the Henscke Mount Edelston
($180.00) (one of the best reds I ever had) and Peter Lehmann Riesling
($65.00)
Value for Money:
Vanitas is an important
addition to the Australian restaurant scene, perfect for that special
occasion or corporate dinner. More of an indulgence and not something
that you would do on a regular basis, this does not come cheap.
The entire night cost us over $1300.
Ambience:
Omate mosiac marble floors and
palatial fountains viewed through an entrance of flickering candles,
there is meticulous attention to detail. From the exquisite Versace
tableware, knowledgeable personalised service and the sourcing of
outstanding international wines, it is a rare dining experience
of which Gianni Versace would have been proud of.
The feel good
factor:
The philosphy here
is "enjoying is living" Unfortunately, only a 4 due to
slow service.

Highly recommended
