Service:
Generally great. Friendly knowledgeable staff for counter or table service,
often by one of the owners. Tell them if you’re in a hurry and they’ll ensure
you’re away in time. Was disappointed our drinks didn’t arrive. Presentation:
Homely, no fuss presentation of meals – simple and appropriate. Décor
unusual – rather eclectic with photos from the collection of the old Municipal
Electricity Department which used to operate on the site. Pleasant, relaxed and
funkily chic. Slightly strange combination of styles with the great recycled bed
menu boards and globe lights at the rear, industrial pendants towards the front,
rich coloured walls and industrial ceiling tiles. Wine
List: Reasonable choice. As it was a weekday
lunch we didn’t indulge. Value
for Money:
Excellent. You have the choice of food from the cabinets
(great quiches etc), soups, impressive specials such as the Salade de Jour with
glazed duck livers, fried speck and hazelnuts which I’m definitely going to try
next time. The chicken breast in a silky white wine and cream sauce on a bed of
spaetzle with delicate leeks and delicious flavourful mushrooms was magnificent.
Indulge as far as you feel you need to – the range is certainly there, and the
prices vary accordingly. Ambience:
This place is
a great find. It’s open from 7 am weekdays and 8 a.m. Saturday, for lunches those
6 days, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday dinners – last orders at 8.30. The
take out food is seriously good – best meringues and Florentines in town, and
always a positive feeling in the place. The
feel good factor: Wonderful
food, cheerfully served at reasonable prices. Have been here for lunches, breakfasts
and take-aways as well as a formal function a couple of times and have never been
disappointed. Well worth a visit.
