Presentation:
This is a rare find and unusual. What is it that makes a place great? On my first visit to Pavilion not long after they first opened, I just watched peoples' faces as they walked in for the first time. It was opened eyed, and then smiles as they took in what they were looking at.
Pavilion is a wonderful mix of choices and the choice is all yours. From the wide walk way entrance you have on your right luxurious white cane comprising what I would call 'throne chairs' with inbuilt side tables. These are on the deck and lawn where they can be arranged as you would like it for your group or for just an intimate two. Then still outside on the deck but under a pergola are tables with armed chairs and cushions. All in white cane and sooo comfortable for a long leisurely lunch. Then you can move inside the bi-fold glass doors for a more inside/outside feel. It's like you're in someone's home, and that is the feeling I'm trying to describe.
The menu is totally enticing and does not disappoint. Great care is taken and the chef has some very innovative meals.
Pricing is very reasonable, Entrees $10 to $21, Mains $24 to $36.
I have been many times now, breakfast at weekends, lunches and dinners. I've tried almost everything on the menu now and it's all good
Winelist:
Not huge, but an excellent, well chosen variety of good wines including some from the Mornington Peninsula.
Ambiance:
There is an outdoor section with a bar to look over to the beach and bay which is right across the road. Very appropriate for where you are. Tapas are served here with a separate menu to the a-lcarte side. People can come in wearing sun dresses and shorts with that lovely sea aroma abounding. Walk further in on the left side of Pavilion and you have an individual table for 10 in a slightly private area. The cocktail bar is here with a more casual approach. There are even sun lounges outside that are either bench seats or you can actually lie and relax there too.
In the a-la-carte area there is a large round called "The King's Table" Wonderful for that celebration.
Winter will not be a problem as there are three open fireplaces throughout the restaurant. Warm, but still with that summer feel.
Feel Good Factor:
I give it a very deserved 4+ wine glasses
I would have given it 5 but that is reserved for silver service.
