Service:
Although the open Members
area is plain as for décor, the Tuesday night specials are
over all excellent in value. The service is plain; you line up to
order your meal and pay. Then you get your number and pick out a
table. The food is delivered hot and fresh by a very friendly staff,
but when it is very busy, they are a harried bunch.
Presentation:
Tuesday night is two-for-one
special occasion. Although it is a very plain presentation, the
food is good value. For the price of $24.95 for two, you receive
hot garlic bread, a glass of house wine each, and a substantial
mean meal. The menu had three choices on this particular Tuesday
night including the Dory and Pork dishes that we ordered. The larger
than normally found serve of Dory comes with chips and small green
salad. While the Pork was a very large and thick cut of meat with
a nice variety of vegetables and sweet potato mash. Both dishes
were very good, and very filling. The port wine sauce on the Pork
was excellent and surprising to find in "club" restaurant
setting. For desert, which is additional in cost, we tried the Apple
Strudel and Crepes Suzette. The Strudel was a large serve that can
easily feed two and was very good. The Crepes had a flavorful orange
sauce and the only thing it lacked would be the flambé presentation.
Wine List:
The Gold Coast Italo-Australian
Club is fully licensed. Although the wine list is not exceptional,
you can order any type of libation that you fancy.
Value for
Money:
The Tuesday
night two-for-one special is over all an exceptional value, especially
with the quality of the meals and the size of the portions.
Ambience:
The Club area is rather stark.
Nevertheless, the walls are slowly filling up with large painted
venues of the Italian countryside. There is an area with fine dining
tables that have crisp white tablecloths, candles and that intimate
feel that is nice at dinner, but it was not open on this Tuesday
night.
The
feel good factor:
The people are friendly, the staff, and the members. It is a family
place, but usually you find the families are couples that are a
little bit on the older side. Therefore, it is not overly loud and
is actually rather welcoming in feel. I give the Gold Coast Italo-Australian
Club a very strong three.
